How to Reach Gangasagar

Gangasagar (Sagar Island) is reached by road to the Muriganga river jetties, then a ferry crossing, then road again.

Step by step

1. Kolkata to the jetty: go by road (or train to Namkhana / Kakdwip) to Harwood Point (Lot 8), Kakdwip. Other ferry points are Namkhana and Chemaguri.
2. River crossing: take the government vessel, launch or barge from Lot 8 to Kachuberia on Sagar Island. Timings follow the tide – see our live Local Info page.
3. Kachuberia onward: road transport (bus, van, taxi or our car) to Gangasagar, Kapil Muni Ashram and the beach.

Good to know

• Start early; ferry timings change with tide and season.
• Carry ID proof, water and some cash.
• Cars cross by barge – ask us for current vehicle arrangements.
