The holy Kapil Muni temple and ashram at the southern tip of Sagar Island, close to the confluence of the Ganga and the Bay of Bengal. Pilgrims take the holy dip at the Sangam and then offer puja here. Kapil Muni is regarded in tradition as an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The famous Gangasagar Mela (Makar Sankranti, mid-January) gathers lakhs of pilgrims here. The temple is a short walk from the pilgrim parking area.
